Iceberg Data Lab Registered Under ESMA

As of the 13th of August 2026, Iceberg Data Lab is proud to be among the first ESG data providers officially registered by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) under Regulation (EU) 2024/3005.

The new regime establishes a unified standard for ESG ratings in the EU, with the aim of increasing the transparency and integrity of these ratings, strengthening investor confidence in ESG financial products, and shaping the EU market for sustainable finance.

Iceberg Data Lab welcome this regulation, and since its inception is aligned with its core principles:

Iceberg Data Lab's Notification Under ESMA

On 2 July 2026, Regulation (EU) 2024/3005 on ESG ratings entered into force, and applies to all environmental, social and governmental (ESG) rating providers operating in the European Union (EU).

The regulation establishes a unified standard for ESG ratings in the EU, with the aim of increasing the transparency and integrity of these ratings, strengthening investor confidence in ESG financial products, and shaping the EU market for sustainable finance.

ESG rating providers will require authorization by the European Supervision and Market Authority (ESMA), and must notify their intent to apply for authorisation. 

Iceberg Data Lab submitted this notification of intent to be authorized as a small ESG rating provider under Article 51 of Regulation (EU) 2024/3005 on the 10th of July, 2026.

Iceberg Data Lab welcomes the regulation by ESMA and the increased trust in ESG signals that it will deliver, protecting the interests of investors and the public at large and supporting the financing of the transition.

Iceberg Data Lab, since its inception, has been committed to the key pillars in terms of good governance of the data as promoted by IOSCO.

Our commitment to transparency is built into the publication of our client guides, where we consistently include information on our production models and limitations in the approaches.

Similarly, we have always considered preventing conflict of interest as a critical part of data integrity and have never taken part in advisory services or provision of services to issuers.

This new step managed by ESMA highlights a new level of maturity in the ESG rating sector. The CEO of Iceberg Data Lab has been a long-term supporter of this process and we are pleased to see this new regime implemented.
